TYPICAL COMMENTS FOUND ON “FACEBOOK” ABOUT KILLALEA

Fantastic news that common sense prevailed. I'm not going to ditch my bumper sticker and t-shirt just yet. Let's remain vigilant.

I agree totally. If there is any form of "Get-Together" to celebrate this victory I feel as many people as possible should try to be there to support it too and make the authorities realize we don't intend to ever let them get away with this.

Awesome news guys, this has made my day.  Good to see people make a difference well done.

As I walked towards the newsagent I saw the headlines on a sign out the front, I couldn't help but let out a loud CHEER!!!

Fabulous news that this bizarre idea has finally been scrapped & that Killalea will be left to its natural beauty!!!!

Thank God really for the global financial crisis.  Most of our local Labour Pollies were silent in the fight to save Killalea.  A very big win for locals and out of towners in saving the best beach in the world.

The state government will never ever take the FARM from us we will rise and unite as one, long live the farm.

My husband and I are both surfers and spent a good deal of our youth there enjoying great waves ,even got married there in 1987.

I remember as a child going fishing @ the farm the cost was 20cents we placed it in a tin all money went to the farmer not the State Government.

Leave it alone.....its another of our precious childhood places and memories....and its BEAUTIFUL.

Leave mother nature alone.....why can't developers appreciate nature, stop thinking about money , money money all the time , look at the real world ...... MOTHER NATURE AND ITS BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS WE LIVE IN ......SHELLHARBOUR / KILLALEA...... Australia!

I actually went to the protest.  I love this place more then anything it is my favourite place in the whole wide world we need to save it if I have to camp there I will.

What a place spent heaps of time down the Farm.  Now living in the UK don’t let em ruin the place!!!

I think there should be a reunion of as many Killaleas as we can get on Killalea beach.

A Killalea reunion on Killalea beach in Australia, now there is a top idea!!!!!!

The American Killeleas are all for saving the farm too.  Up the farm! Down the profiteers!

I have never been to this place but as it's a part of our family history I'm all for saving it, just looking at the pictures of the beach stir feelings of awe.

I agree with you Will!!! All the way from Canada comes support for this cause!!!  Too much land is being ruined - I see it in Canada all the time - what was once beautiful farm land that produced food for us is taken over by big companies who build sub-divisions filled with houses, etc........let's save some of our land for our kids!!!!!

Some of the world’s greatest scientists travel to Killalea.  It is one of very few unique places in the world where they can study large scale prehistoric deposits of mineral and rock not discovered in many other places on this planet. This special place tells a story of our Earth's history, not to mention how beautiful it is.  How could anyone want to destroy it???

I first surfed "The Farm" in the early 60's...Back then though, most surf spots up and down the East Coast were like the Farm...Unspoilt and undeveloped.  Unfortunately since those early surfing days I've seen the developers take over nearly all the good surfing spots,  Noosa, Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads, Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Crescent Head, to name a few...there's not much left untouched by the developers.  "The Farm" needs to be saved...enough is enough...there is so much more to life than the almighty dollar!

I had no idea the Farm was in trouble.  I still remember the first time I went there with friends.  It’s a SPECTACULAR surf beach!  I’m with everyone here. SAVE THE FARM!!

The farm is an amazing place - let’s preserve it.

My young girls love running in the grassy hills when the weather is right. We only moved here 6 months ago, are hooked and cannot believe it's at risk. Pip and family.

There's been enough of this sort of thing already in this country. State-owned land should never be sold by any "government-of-the-day" for short-term profit. Two parties benefit from such sales, and two only; the state and the developers.  No-one else wins. The government will only be around for a short time, but the results of its stupid decisions will be around for ages.  Places like Killalea really are held in trust by the state, on behalf of the people. Failure to maintain that trust is nothing less than betrayal. Keep the lands surrounding the Farm as it is so that EVERYONE can enjoy it, not just a privileged few.  Killalea does not need "over 200 units, restaurants, swimming pools and a convention centre, as well as 1,000 extra visitors a day". Go inland to build your developments, leave our beautiful coastline alone.

It will be interesting to see what will happen. I spoke to people at "the farm" on the weekend who believe the development will never go ahead (Dave Milnes, the 1st bloke to ever surf the spot).   And also people who say the developers can't be stopped.   Surely with the beaches being Reserves now and with the Indigenous people support, government/council/the trustee's could not let this go ahead.

Just spent some time down there recently it’s such an amazing location.

Surely with the beaches being Reserves now and with the Indigenous people support, government/council/the trustee's could not let this go ahead.

I support this cause.  What a Beautiful spot.

Luv it there, great for surfing and bbq , go there quite a bit. The view is great

Can’t put it back once its gone and carved up. I’ve surfed it for close on 20 years and I tell you, there is nothing like it anywhere on the NSW coast as primordially beautiful and alive and clean. Can’t wash off the stink of development once it’s built unless someone comes up with a way to make all tourists not shit and litter.

The old Farm so many memories.  Early morning sesh's... luved growin up on the Shellharbour Coast.

I seriously had the best surf out the farm today, and if that privilege is taken away from me just because of some stupid development for tourism, I will be extremely pissed off!!!  There will b like a million people out there charging the southern corner...not cool :(

Man epic surf yesterday, pod of bout 20 dolphins came in and spent like an hour rolling around in the waves with me and a few others, was sick, pumped too go again today, hopefully the waves are a bit better though.

Problem is its people like you who moved in to the abomination that is Shell Cove/Flinders that give these developers the demand to keep building. Used to be beautiful....I'll never surf there again.

Beet it developers and all the people who live in Shellcove, you have given the developers the money to keep building the shit hole that it is.

Hi are you able to feature a pic of the 'SAVE KILLALEA" T- SHIRT ON HERE?

Well u S.O.B. u have come up with a great idea. I’m up for this. I’d love to go to Australia :)

I love this beach it is my absolute favourite!
But since they built the car park down the bottom and all the houses the beach seems really dirty.
If people are going to go to the beach they should at least pick they’re shit up after themselves and NOT smoke on the beach.
The farm was originally a spot for surfers to go.
It sucks that some of the beauty of the place is being taken away :(

Great Beach

I have been going to this great surfing area of our South Coast for years and the thought of having developers come in and make money out of our great surfing beaches is just greed by local and state governments.

People power!!!

Save Shellharbour Killalea before it ends up looking like bloody Surfer’s Paradise.

Leave our little bit of paradise alone!!!!!!

I would chain myself to the bulldozers to try and save Killalea.

The farm has already been destroyed by f…ing Shell Cove creeping up on it.... What happened to the good old days when you had to drive along the bumpy road, open up the gate and leave your 50 cents in the box and there weren't 1000 cars parked there and everyone fighting over waves....You can try and stop the developers coming in, but the truth is Killalea is already destroyed.

KILLALEA "RECREATION OR PROFIT" Heading down to my favourite haunts.  Those killer South Coast highways.  I cross the river through the thick green scrub and that’s were my religion stays.   My ocean, My Saviour. My friend.  They Rape the forest disease the oceans.  A raped coastline in the end.  Shellcove Zoo no room to move.  They promised a Marina you got nothing to lose.  While Killalea gets exploited by car thieves plus a new Golf course and work for dole trees.  Those Mystics memories are all I need.  Those "A” frame peaks with out all the greed......... SAVE KILLALEA FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE FUTURE, THE VISIONARYS, SURFERS, ENVIROS AND ALL THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED OUR STRETCH OF BEAUTY WE CALL HOME. SOUTHCOAST NSW. AUS

A big sigh of relief knowing KILLALEA was granted surfing reserve status YEEEEEEW Just goes to show we can take on these corporate tall poppy’s and save what’s left of the area...Pats on the back to those who worked hard on making this decision come true were all forever in debt to ya's. LETS GO SURFIN..

I absolutely love Killalea I go up there all time to escape and hear nothing most quiet and beautiful place ever.

Noooooo!  That’s where I had my sklies trip, beautiful place.  God developers are such bastards.

Killalea is not "untouched", but is sure is peaceful and serene.  Best surfing beach along that strip.  Best quiet place to holiday (out of season!).  I wouldn't go there in a fit if it was developed.  Developed is what I try to avoid and stay away from when I want a break from the rat race. I'd hate to see more east coast eaten alive by corporate crack pots.  I hope now it not only remains a surfing reserve, but that somehow it could be a protected sea reserve.  As warmer currents come further down south (global warming) and we lose more barrier reef (shipping catastrophe) I think we need to reserve more coast line further down and put in man made reefs and create habitats for species to come down south when they need to.  We might be able to fight off developers for now, but a lot more needs to be done.

News article about Rally at Killalea on Sunday following the surf reserve announcement - the fight is not over!

I will go nuts if they do anything in the way of developing it.  I’ve been at the Farm for a surf with my family since I was born I don’t even like the f..ked up housing estate they put next to it.  Bring back localism I say.   Ha Ha.

Don’t take away the "Farm" from us, I have way too many good memories of all day long surfing trips and would hate to lose it to tourists.

Just beat it developers!

We need the latest news.....update please.

Shellharbour is already way over developed as it is, the marinas going ahead which will destroy Shallows and South Beach, as if we need more development at a place as beautiful as the Farm.
Keep the beaches for surfers and people, not bricks and buildings.

I am thinking of moving to "Hell Cove".  Apparently you get a package....House, land, 4wd and longboard......F@##ers

I lived at Bass Point on a farm back in the 50's Killalea was always the name, then you walked or rode to the beach near the swamp, think it is called wet lands now, it wasn't until the surfboarders started using it that it was referred to as The Farm, may be some one would like to do some research into where the name Killalea came from?

I remember way back when you had to pay to get into the farm off Bass Point Quarry Rd. Now they have that silly boom gate and you can't get in or out after 9pm. Now some developers want their piece of the pie for an exclusive buyers market.  Shove em.  I think Shellharbour Council should stand up and take part of this blame, pandying to big business.  Shove the marina as well who needs it?  Shallows is great the way it is.

"Killalea Beach, on the New South Wales central coast, is closer to being designated as a surf reserve, with the move gaining important state-wide support."  Eh?
South Coast, Comrades!  And yes save it from the fat, moneyed, golfing longboarders!
Now there is a fight worth having.......

And Jennifer, we used to call it ICIANZ's cos that was the name on the docket they gave us when we had to pay 40c to get through.  And it is one of few places on the entire coast where you can surf in a NE wind. Apparently, they ain’t making any more beaches in our lifetime (and a few lifetimes ahead) so preserve it for those who know where the wind is coming from and how much it matters throughout summer for Gong/Kiama Surfers.

Hahahaha golfing longboarder's?  Fat yes but golfing!!!  Don't ya just love the way longboarders sit out the back and pick off all the best waves, leaving the shortboarders squabbling in their wake. You guys, can have Reddies,Cowries, Barrack Point, and Port reef and continue fighting it out at sandon....us placid lbr's won't be moving to far....

Saw it for the first time last month. Just moved to the area. It rocks and keep it safe.

When we used to surf the farm as its called about 30 year ago we had to pay a 40cents toll to a family that sat in an old bomb car all day

A great place to kickback and enjoy the optics, all they gotta do now is remove the kiosk and those horrid outbuildings including that house in the middle of the paddock on the left as you drive in....oh and that admin block.

Yet again the greed of a few people is about to affect everyone.  The sooner we stop thinking that we have to live and build everything within a stones throw of the water the better.  It amazes me the money people pay these days to live at the beach who don't use the ocean at all, be it to surf, fish, boat, swim (more than twice a year thanks) etc.

I helped build the path on heartbreak hill to make it less painful for surfers to run up and down barefoot.  My uncle, who surfs there regularly, was very thankful for this.

You have my support.....

Let's Protest!!!  Public voices can resonate passion and spark interest and help to highlight the issue of sustainable development ... The farm should be saved ... It's Crown Land ... Let's keep it that way ... Could it be considered World Heritage?  There are so many groups it's special to; Surfers, Fishermen, Families, Recreational Walkers, School Groups ... F**k the developers and Shellharbour Council.

It’s a great surfin spot and to make money from it is un-Australian!!

F**kn developers ,,,,,,,on ya dickheads destroy beauty for money.  Yeh that’s proud Australian ....."LEAVE IT ALONE"

I spent many days of my life on that beach & riding my bike on the old farm property.  On my last trip down to Shellharbour I was horrified at the amount of development that has gone on.  I loved growing in that place, now it has turned into a commercial holocaust.  Thank God my memories have not faded like the town has.

Leave it alone you buttheads.

Problem is its people like you who moved in to the abomination that is Shell Cove/Flinders that give these developers the demand to keep building. Used to be beautiful....I'll never surf there again.

Beet it developers and all the people who live in Shellcove, you have given the developers the money to keep building the shit whole that it is.

Hey guys the Farm and Mystics were declared a national surf reserve yesterday.  Photos and videos to come.  yewww!!!

Ahh.  The Farm & Mystics.  Heaven on Earth.
