EDITORIAL No secrets on Killalea
opinion
IT'S time the public was given the facts about exactly what is planned for Killalea State Park.
The longer the "eco-tourist concept" proposal remains shrouded in mystery, the more people will become cynical and suspicious.
The park is located wholly within the limits of Shellharbour City, but councillors say they have been kept in the dark about the plans.
The one body which could shed light on Mariner Land Limited's plans is the Killalea Park Trust, yet its members are gagged from talking about any trust dealings.
Even Shellharbour City Council's representative on the trust cannot tell his own council what is planned.
It's all well and good for the trust to say it has confidence in the developer and has sighted drawings of the planned buildings, but why can't the public see them?
And why does NSW Minister for Lands Tony Kelly say the council can only be briefed after the 50-year lease has been signed, due to commercial confidentiality?
Isn't that a bit late?
The public deserves some straight answers - before the lease is signed.
