Protect precious jewel in Illawarra crown

My family has used the state recreation park for surfing and fishing since the '60s.

I walk along Minnamurra spit and Mystics Beach and am so grateful that this area remains pristine and largely untouched, which is rare for any coastal area in the Illawarra.

We have all watched as the development has creeped up to the edges of the park.

I remember driving up to the gate and paying the farmer to get to the beach.

Now I have to drive past a huge ugly wall, huge houses crammed into small blocks and now the road has been diverted past a school, so that surfers, school buses, parents and residents share the same road.

Have we gone development mad?  Matt Brown tells us to be open-minded, but can we afford to?  As residents we cannot sit back and let property developers get a hold of this jewel of the Illawarra.

Surely the community can find a way to support Killalea Park in its present form.  Once it is gone it is gone forever and all we will have will be our memories.
