Ecotourism resort development to be 'tucked away'

By SARAH ALLELY

KILLALEA Coastal Investments, controlled by Mariner, will submit a development application for an ecotourism resort in the next few months.

Lands Minister Tony Kelly said ecotourism was "a word that's just started to develop".

"But the first issue is to try and get something that blends in with the environment," he said.

"We don't want something like those houses up in Shell Cove plonked in here.

"The development sites will be tucked away, they won't be up in front."

The three pieces of land to be divided into 200 strata leases are situated at the kiosk and the administration building on the ridge, and near the campground in the gully.

Mr Kelly said objectors had jumped the gun, as it would likely be a year before the development application was approved.

Mariner development director Anthony Moeller said it had an arrangement with Babcock and Brown to take the development application forward.

The two Sydney investment companies had been involved in five ecotourism developments under the banner of EcoPoint Management.

Babcock and Brown's Bruce Porter said ecotourism developments were designed to be able to be removed in future years without degradation of the environment.

Mr Porter said at Killalea the resort buildings would have minimal impact on views as people entered the park, and also from The Farm.
