Don't trash pristine beauty of The Farm
Killalea State Recreation Area is listed on the State Government's website (www.stateparks.nsw.gov.au/killalea.html) as 250ha of pristine coastal reserve with unspoilt natural surrounds. Well, maybe not for long.
Killalea State Park Trust is planning to lease out land at Killalea and build holiday accommodation to raise money for the trust.
Mr Luchetti is quoted in the Mercury (April 21) as saying: "If we're going to build a park we're all going to proud of, we need to generate some income".
What a surprise that this wasn't publicised until after the state election.
This proposed lease is the thin edge of the wedge. More cabins would be built in a few years. Then shops. And an access road. And a hotel. And a boat ramp. And a waste recycling facility. And then surprise, surprise it won't be a pristine place any more, so houses would be built all over it.
I have a message for the trust, and for the State Government, whose lack of funding, and support of entrepreneurial development is driving them in this direction. Natural beauty cannot be built. It isn't created by property deals or money. It is there now. Bit by bit, year by year, property development by property development, our coast is being trashed by the Government and its entrepreneur mates.
I have been to the The Farm surfing with my boys. It's a magic place. I want my descendants to see its natural beauty. Leave it alone. Save money on administration. Charge entrance fees if you must. But don't trash it.
