No consultation with community on Killalea
Recently I attended the meeting with minister Tony Kelly concerning the proposed complex at Killalea.
I was astounded to hear the minister say there had been community consultation, remarks which were echoed by our MP Matt Brown.
What consultation? That's what I and many other community members are asking.
All we have seen is a couple of articles in the media.
I am concerned that this development of apparently motel-type units, two or three swimming pools, restaurants, 80 to 120 villas, as well as car parks and other amenities will all be built on public land.
Apparently the lease of the land will be granted for 52 years! Who gets a lease for 52 years, and why is this developer getting one at all, especially for 52 years, on public land? Soon there will be very little of our natural coastline left in this area.
Warilla Beach has been destroyed, South Shellharbour Beach will be more than half destroyed, and the adjoining wetland will be completely destroyed by the proposed marina, and now this development at Killalea.
Next in line of course could be the Blackbutt Forest. After all, it's good land just sitting there doing nothing.
Mairi Petersen, Shellharbour.
