Call for Trust to "open its books"

LAST Tuesday’s meeting between the Save Killalea Alliance and unions produced further insights into the proposed development at Killalea State Park, according to Sonya McKay, spokesperson for the Alliance.

Alliance and union representatives reported back on the meeting with Tony Kelly on 14 June.

“This included the revelation that only around 13 million will be generated over the life of the lease proposed for the park, which becomes active on formal approval of a development application,” Ms McKay said.

“This figure was confirmed by the Minister for Lands in parliament to be for a period of 52 years.”

“The meeting also provided further information on the ad for tenders, details which refuted a reported public meeting at the end of 2002, along with figures that didn’t support the need for further funding arrangements for park maintenance.”

Ms McKay said the Killalea Trust should now open its books to the public.

“Particularly since they continue to use it as an argument to develop the park,” she said.

“The community is overwhelmingly opposed to development at Killalea State Park as indicated from the further 1500 petition signatures presented to the meeting.”

“This adds to the 2739 signatures already submitted to parliament through Sylvia Hale, Greens MLC.”
