Marching blindly into the Killalea atrocity
your say
The developer-commissioned survey of community attitudes to the proposed large-scale tourist resort on public land at Killalea State Park produced nothing but overwhelming opposition to the proposal.
It is hard to believe that the developer, local MPs and the State Government could continue to charge ahead with this atrocity in the harsh reality that only one in five supported it, or could be induced to express support for it, through this tricky methodology.
If the purpose of this developer-friendly survey was to produce a favourable response, then it was a cataclysmic failure. Of those four out of five who opposed the proposal 80 per cent "could not identify any circumstances where they would support it".
The survey then desperately asks the question if there are any circumstances where you could "live with it". Really? Most of us could live with herpes if we had to, but we still don't want it.
What this survey has emphatically delivered is the undeniable fact that this community doesn't want it and demands that Killalea be preserved as that special, and increasingly rare, public space available for peaceful recreation in a rampantly developing region.
And how could Matt Brown, Lylea McMahon and Lands Minister Tony Kelly continue to applaud this short-sighted and atrocious proposal when the glaring evidence is that this community says no?
They are looking more and more like reeds in the wind.
