The fight to stop development at Killalea State Park continues but this Sunday’s barbeque at the popular reserve is all about having fun.
Save Killalea Alliance spokesperson Sonya McKay said the event was being billed as a relaxing family-friendly event.
“We want all members of the community to attend and express their views or concerns about what is being proposed,” she said.
“Diversity is the key. The more people and different groups that attend on the day, the better. If you belong to a community group, wear something to identify it and show the diversity of support that we have for each other.”
Ms McKay said NSW Greens parliamentarian Ian Cohen was slated to attend the barbeque, which will run from noon to 2pm at Killalea State Park.
The 250ha pristine reserve on 8km of coastline between Shellharbour and Kiama boasts legendary surf beaches The Farm and Mystics and is a popular spot with visitors to the region.
Killalea Coastal Investments, a new company controlled by Mariner Financial, has an agreement to lease three parcels of land at Killalea State Park. It plans to build 200 strata title serviced apartments, a licensed restaurant, motel-style accommodation and several swimming pools.
