Killalea
trust member quits after 13 years

THE
former vice-chairman of the Killalea State Park Trust says it is highly unlikely
controversial plans for a development within the area will proceed.
After
13 years of service, Mark Luchetti resigned from the Killalea State Park Trust
this week.
Mr
Luchetti, who has held the voluntary positions of secretary and vice-chairman,
said competing work and family commitments meant he was no longer able to
continue in the role.
"It
has just got to the stage where I have felt I'd given enough in terms of being a
volunteer," Mr Luchetti said.
He
said the establishment of a camping ground, a new road to the beach and
foundation of the education centre were among some of the trust's achievements
during his time.
He
said he didn't believe Mariner Corporation's $35 million proposal to develop a
106-unit tourist complex would go ahead.
In
a recent announcement, Mariner Corporation - formerly Mariner Financial - said
its net assets at December 31 stood at $20,000 and the company had cut its
full-time staff from 70 to two.
"I
don't think Mariner or their proposal will proceed ... but there are still legal
issues the trust needs to consider in relation to a termination of
contracts," Mr Luchetti said.
"It
is highly likely in the next 12 months that an agreement will be reached between
the parties ... but it is a matter of process," he said.
"There is nothing untoward ... certain events trigger certain
results in the contract."
In
November last year the trust granted Mariner an extension to January 2011 to
allow the company to get its development application approved by the State
Government, but the sunset date for a start to construction remains March 31,
2011.
